For our 3 day 2 night get-away to Phi Phi Island we stayed at Chunut House. It was the most expensive place we’ve stayed on our trip so far, and the most roughing-it accomodations. We stayed in a fan (no AC) bungalow. Chunut house is on the pathway that leads towards the view point, but don’t forget to make the right turn at the oddly placed Siam Bank ATM machine.
We liked the natural design of the place, but it was a bit too basic for our tastes. I mostly didn’t like that the room wasn’t sealed enough to keep mosquitoes out. There were openings along the window seals and between the planks in the floor you could see the light coming in. We did like the spacious semi-outdoor bathroom, but since it was open near the ceiling, the bugs could get in. After our trip to the Cashew Factory we were happy to find out that “Chunut” was an interesting spelling of “Cashew nut.” There were cashew trees growing throughout the hotel area.
Not having AC wasn’t a problem, since it wasn’t too hot in the room and running the fan helped keep the insects at bay.
The bathroom was spacious, but very simple. No hooks for hanging towels or shelves for toiletries.
The people working there were friendly, but we were disappointed that they didn’t clean our room even though we stayed for two nights. In fact, the room could use a real cleaning, the floor was dingy and everything just had a dirty feel to it. So, if you don’t mind these short comings you will enjoy Chunut House.
