Review of Eggs ‘n Things in Waikiki

11/11/11

This evening we wanted to celebrate 11/11/11, so we decided to go out to dinner.  We had been wanting to try Eggs ‘n Things (located at 343 Saratoga Road) for a while, so we finally gave it a shot.  I went in without expectations and was pleasantly surprised.  It turned out that we both really enjoyed it!

The service was friendly right from the beginning and we were quickly seated, since there was no line.  George ordered a daily special of eggs Benedict over crab cakes with potatoes and I got macadamia nut pancakes.  The lady sitting at the table next to us was eating macadamia nut pancakes, and they looked so good I just had to try them!  They serve breakfast all day, with some additional dishes offered at dinner time.  Meals range from about $7.95 to $12, which is not bad for Waikiki.

I was super hungry and ready to dig-in when our meals arrived!

Both meals were delicious, although the crab cakes could have used a bit more crab.  I skipped the whipped cream, since it would have cost $1.75 extra, but it wasn’t necessary.  There are three types of syrup: coconut, guava, and maple.  I tried the coconut and guava, which were both yummy.  The pancakes were nice and fluffy, but still filling at the same time.

I helped George a bit with his meal and ate two pancakes.  After that I was super full and asked for a box to take 2 pancakes home.  When the server returned with the box he brought a bag with all three of the syrups.  How nice!  I was also impressed that they use environmental boxes and bags, made partially out of recycled materials.

I am a big fan of macadamia nuts, but they gave such a generous helping that it was actually a bit much.  I don’t need any more macadamia nuts for a while :).

George and I had both intended to ask if they offer a kama’aina (local resident) discount, but we totally forgot.  When I went to pay and handed my Bank of Hawaii debit card to the cashier she asked if we lived here and let us know that they give a 15% discount to locals on dinner (10% off breakfast).  She re-rang up our bill, so that it went from about $20 to $17.50.  I thought that it was very nice of her to point out that we could get a discount when we had not even asked.

We will definitely be back and plan to bring guests to Eggs ‘n Things!

On Tuesday January 31st we went to dinner at Eggs ‘n Things, and my meal was so pretty, I though I’d share:

Special: Waffle with fresh strawberries, bananas and chocolate chips, topped with whipped cream and macadamia nuts

I almost ordered the waffle with strawberries, whipped cream and macadamia nuts, but the waiter told me that the normal strawberry waffle has frozen strawberries, whereas the special they had that day was with fresh strawberries. I’m glad he mentioned the special! I would have been disappointed to have gotten frozen strawberries.  Their daily specials are always written on a white board in the restaurant. The waffle was as yummy as it looks, just a bit difficult to cut.

So far I have tried the pancakes, french toast, and waffle and my favorite is their pancakes. They are also the most filling! Enjoy your breakfast any time of day :)!
