George’s Top Ten Countries Visited

Here is my list of top ten countries as of 2010 and this list will change as we visit more places around the globe.  If you don’t know where these countries are located, you can check out our travel maps.

1. Thailand

The land of smiles and the most incredible beaches we have yet to visit 🙂  Not as cheap as it used to be, but still a good bargain when compared to anywhere in the west.  Also, the best mango smoothies are always near a beautiful beach.

Phi Phi Island, Thailand

2. Malaysia

Great  cultural mix of Muslims, Christians and Buddhists living in ‘almost’ harmony!  Home of the Orang-Utan and they have their share of amazing beaches as well.

3. Tibet

Like no place we have visited, the Top of The World is:  Spiritual – watching people perform prostrations shows the true dedication of the Tibetans, Beautiful – everywhere you look the scenery is amazing and Shocking – we won’t go into this!

4. Japan

I’m half Japanese, so I’m probably biased, and Japan is expensive, but they do have amazing temples and gardens, the most humble people and of course high-tech gadgetry.

5. Slovenija

Picture postcard natural beauty is the entire tiny country.  They are also the only eastern European country that appears to be proactive about environmental conservation.

Lake Bled, Slovenija

6. Portugal

Reminds me of California, except they have thousand year old castles with villages of people living inside of them.  Also one of the most amazing desserts in the world: Pasteis de Belem!   mmmmmm….

7. Montenegro

Ahhh …. Montenegro!  A beautiful tiny Balkan country on the Adriatic coast just south of Croatia with the breathtaking Bay of Kotor.  My suggestion:  Skip expensive Croatia and visit Montenegro while it’s still on the cheap!

8. Laos

If you are looking for adventure, you will find it here in land-locked Laos.  A medium size country with a small population means a lot of open space and the scenery does not disappoint!  Don’t miss a kayak ride down the Nam Song River in Vang Vien.

9. Spain

Great museums, history, culture, food,  and beautiful beaches along the Costa Del Sol.  So far, we have only seen about half of Spain and excited to see the rest!

Plaza Mayor at Night, Madrid, Spain

10. China

Like all large countries there are good parts and bad.  Yangshuo ranks very very high as one of the most magical places in the world for its natural beauty and a must visit for anyone to China.  Also visit the hundreds of giant pandas at the reserve in Chengdu.
