Big Buddha

We see the Big Buddha in the distance from our studio every day.

It is much more impressive from up close!  The statute is still a work in progress, since it is being funded through donations.  Buddha is covered in sparkling white marble that was imported from Burma (since the burmese marble is more impressive than the marble found in Thailand), and the lotus flower Buddha is sitting on will be covered in marble, as well, when it is finished.  The statue is in memory of those who lost their lives in world violence and natural disasters.

At this view point (next to buddha) use caution when walking around as there are cobras and vipers lurking in the brush and in little crevasses.

Once completed there will be a museum inside the statue as well as a learning center.  visiting Big Buddha is a must see when visiting Phuket, but don’t be fooled into thinking that you can actually walk there!  You need to hire a taxi!
