Bus from Gokarna to Panjim, Goa, India

Our three days at the beach in Gokarna flew by too fast.  Pretty soon it was time to head north to the city of Panjim, in the state of Goa.  We took a local bus departing at 8:15am from Gokarna to Madgoan, which took about 4 hours and cost 80 rupees per person.  It was our first time riding a local bus in India for George and I.

Local Bus from Gokarna to Madgoan

There were cushioned bench seats fitting two people on one side and three on the other side of the isle.  It wasn’t air conditioned, but the breeze through the window was enough to keep it somewhat comfortable while the bus was moving.  When the bus would stop for breaks, though, it would get stifling hot inside the bus.  Once we reached Madgoan we hopped on another local bus to head to Panjim.  Luckily we were some of the first people on the bus and were able to sit on the front seats, where there was room at our feet for luggage.  The second bus ride was less than an hour- and then we were in Panjim!

Now we know it’s not difficult to take the local buses and they are a great deal!  If you’re not certain which bus to get on you can always ask a bus driver or at the ticket counter and they are super helpful.
