After our travels through Myanmar, we spent the month of August in Kata Beach, Phuket Island, Thailand. We looked for a hotel to stay at for an entire month, but not finding anywhere we were sure about, we decided to rent a room for two weeks to start with. Our home for the first half of the month was Mussee Kata Boutique, in the Kata Night Plaza. It’s a new hotel, with nice clean rooms. In Thailand the rooms tend to start out nice, but over the years, without maintenance, they go down hill fast. Even the studio we rented back in 2008 at Kata Beach Studio no longer looked so appealing.
Overall, we were happy with Mussee Kata Boutique. The WiFi in the room was a bit weak, but we purchased a WiFi booster which helped that. There were three small jacuzzi/pools on the roof, which were perfect for short swims throughout the day to cool off. We had breakfast included with our room, but we don’t recommend it, since it isn’t the best and it’s easy to get tired of it after a day or two. For our room and breakfast we paid 700 Baht per night (since it was low season and we stayed two weeks). The main drawback with Mussee was the night club nearby, which played loud music late into the night. The location was good, only about a 10 minute walk to Kata Beach. It was also very close to Kata Karon Seafood, one of our favorite restaurants at which to eat. We also liked that the staff was friendly and greeted us with a smile every day. If you don’t mind being close to the night life, it’s a nice place to stay.
