Siam Rice Thai Cookery School, Chiang Mai

We weren’t sure what to do on our fourth day in Chiang Mai, since we’d gained an extra day there by skipping Sukothai.  I looked on Trip Adviser, and the top recommended activities in Chiang Mai were cooking classes.  We signed up online for a class at Siam Rice.  We each got to choose a menu to cooking and enjoy.  We had a good time at the class, maybe more so for the socializing than for the cooking instruction, since it was a bit rushed and so packed that we don’t really remember what we learned.  Luckily they emailed us the recipes afterward, so hopefully we’ll be able to recreate some of the dishes at home.  The teachers, Nancy and Pot, were both very nice and the facilities were clean and organized.

The morning started off with a trip to the market, to purchase the ingredients we would use that day.  Then we headed to the school to cook up some Thai food and have a feast.

For the yellow curry I used some of the red curry paste we had made and pre-made yellow curry powder.  We all thought it was cheating a bit to use pre-made curry powder when we were supposed to be making the paste ourselves ;).

The reviews were right that you didn’t need to eat breakfast before class.  We were eating all afternoon!
