Thai Iced Tea

Thai iced tea is my favorite drink!  I just can’t get enough of it.  I’ve learned how to properly order it in Thai.  “Chaa yen” is “tea cold,” and by default comes with milk and sugar.  If you order “chaa dam yen”  you will get Thai iced tea with sugar only, no milk.  For hot Thai tea with milk and sugar, order “chaa rawn,” or “tea hot.”  If you want an iced tea to go, order it “to take away.”  Some places will serve your drink to take away in a little plastic bag with a straw.  I was hoping to get a photo of that, but the place I ordered from had cute plastic cups, instead.  We found some instant tea mix at the Family Mart, but it’s not quite as good as the real stuff.  7-Eleven also has a machine with iced coffee, iced tea, and iced chocolate.  You can get a large cup of iced tea for 24 baht, which is a good deal.  It’s refreshing, but not exactly the same as the stuff from a restaurant.
