We took a longtail boat ride around to some spots on Phi Phi Don that we hadn’t visited before. It is highly recommended that you hire a longtail boat driver versus a speed boat because you will be supporting a local Thai person (vs. hiring a speedboat that is most likely owned by a westerner) as well as enjoy the experience!!
We tried to hire Man (pronunciation similar to ‘lawn’), who was our boat driver in 2004, when George proposed to me :D. We found Man at his regular spot near the pier, but he said his boat was broken and had his friend take us, instead. We paid 1,200 baht for 3 hours. We couldn’t go to the side of the island we had hoped to go to, since the wind and waves were too strong, but weren’t dissapointed with the places we visited! It was a great new experience 🙂
This tiny little bay on Phi Phi Don Island is like a mini version of Phi Le Bay on Phi Phi Leh. The water is still, so you can easily swim or snorkle. It looks shallow, but the middle was actually too deep for me to stand up in. There were some rocks and coral, so it was better not to stand, anyway.
I’m not scared of the jellyfish anymore, now that I know that this type is harmless – no stinging capabilities!
For some reason, Man swapped the battery from one of his boats to the one that we took, but the one we ended up with was still dead. We had to get a jump start from another boat after each stop.
There was a beautiful narrow powdery sand beach at Lana Bay.
For some reason the powdered sugar white sand turns to shell covered rough sand near the end of the beach.
